2011-2012 Sisterhood Mission Statement

Sisterhood's goal is to build close friendships among the women of our Temple so they can all be enriched by the beauty of Judaism and the strength of our Conservative Movement. We reach out to all age groups and all interest groups. Zahava is our newest special interest group. Many of our Zahava women have children in our Early Childhood Center and in our Religious School. We are happy to share our recipes and our advice with them. They are precious to us. We also have special programs for our seniors, educational luncheons that are also open to the greater community. We have daytime and evening classes that run the gamut from Elementary conversational Hebrew to the Role of Prayer in our Lives Today. All our women are welcome to attend day classes and evening educational classes. We are always excited when one of our Sisterhood members is able to come up on the Bima and read Torah and Haftorah. We celebrate with them on Sisterhood Shabbat and many times our women celebrate their Bat Torah with us on that special Shabbat. Many of our women work and enjoy the relaxation of learning mah jongg at our evening classes or taking advantage of a special health program or a series of yoga classes. We have day and evening book clubs, Rabbinic lectures on topics that connect to our lives today and we have a great desire to meet you and make you part of our Sisterhood family. We welcome our new members at our Paid Up Membership Dinner in the fall and we celebrate with our Torah Fund honoree at our Spring Dinner and Fashion Show. Both events give our Sisterhood members an opportunity to be united with all our members and to enjoy a sumptuous smorgasbord and dinner.

Sisterhood is a vital part of our temple. We share our temple's goals of helping those in need by delivering Shabbat dinners to those in mourning and by supporting the mitzvah projects that help our community. We give our financial support to our temple and to fundraising efforts for UJA and Israel Bonds. We have a special love for the Jewish Theological Seminary and help fund the education of our future clergy, cantors and teachers by supporting Torah Fund. Every year, we proudly wear a new Torah Fund pin that is a symbol of our support for the Seminary. We are proud member of the Women's League for Conservative Judaism, our umbrella international sisterhood organization.

We invite you to join our Sisterhood family.
