  • Rabbi Ario S. & Tess Hyams Judaica Museum Presents "The Lights of Our People". See outstanding instruments of light from around the world, spanning the centuries, depicting the festival of Chanukah, Shabbat, and life-cycle events, all from our own TBS collection, as well as "Creating Light" - silk panels created by our own talented congregants. (Opened Friday, December 19)
  • $1250 for First Time Sleep-Away Campers Temple Beth Sholom is proud to be part of the Campership program, supported by UJA-Federation of New York's Commission on Jewish Identity and CampfireRenewal, the Foundation for Jewish Camp, and Jewish Communal Fund. The Campership program is designed to attract new campers between the ages of 8 and 16 (as of June 1st) by providing stipends of $1250 to Jewish sleep-away camps, regardless of financial need. Prospective campers must obtain an application code from TBS to receive a Campership stipend. Registration opens on January 1, 2009. For more details about camper requirements, please contact Gila Hadani Ward or call the TBS office at 621-2288.
  • Attention All Knitters The tzedakah (charity), A Package From Home, is looking for handknit hats to send to Hayalim Bodedim (literally "lone soldiers", or Israeli soldier with no family in Israel). The weather is getting colder and time is of the essence. All hats must be made to pattern in order to conform with army regulations. If you are interested in knitting a hat and sending it to Israel, please call our office and we will provide you with a pattern and an address to mail the hat. Now is the time to do a "Knitzvah!"
  • Discussions and Activity for Retirees and Empty Nesters (D.A.R.E.) Join us each week for lunch and socializing as we listen to a variety of speakers, watch engrossing videos, and discuss current events. Next meeting Monday, January 5 at 1:00 PM.
  • Walking with Justice Join Rabbi Jeni Friedman as we ask: What are Jewish perspectives and attitudes on the environment, business ethics, international economic justice and inclusiveness of persons with special needs? The course meets for 1 1/2 hours on Tuesday nights in the Library beginning at 7:15 PM, breaking for evening minyan at 8:00 PM, and continuing for 45 minutes after minyan.   • Book Talk Wednesday, January 7 2009 10:30 AM in the Board Room "The Nazi Officer’s Wife" by Edith Hahn Beer. A fascinating account of unbelievable survival that draws you in from the first page. The Bryant Library will have copies of this book available for circulation. Mention "TBS Book Talk" at the front desk.
  • Men’s Club Board Meeting The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 8th at 6:30 PM. Dinner will be served. At the meeting we will prepare for World Wide Wrap (February 1st), Scotch Tasting (February 5th), and Men’s Club Shabbat (February 7th). For more information, contact Joe Zacherman.
  • We Need You! TBS USY will be hosting the CHAZAK USY Divisional Kinnus (Convention) from February 27 - March 1. During this time, over 150 Jewish teens from all over Nassau County and the metropolitan NY area will join us for a weekend of learning, friendship, music and fun. We need help from our TBS family in the following areas: housing, volunteer support, and chaperones. For more information or to volunteer your services, please contact Gila in the MBS office.
  • Please Stop the Rollercoaster! Have questions about raising teenagers? How about JEWISH teenagers? Are they any different? Join Rabbi Alan Lucas for a 5 evening discussion group for parents with children in grades 6 - 12. Sessions date are January 12, March 2, and April 27 and are held from 8 - 9 PM in the Library.   • Alex Schnier Round Table Discussion Group Everyone is Welcome! We meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month (January 14) for informative, timely & stimulating discussions on a variety of topics from 10:30 - 11:30 AM in TBS Board Room
  • A Night of Military Bridge The Sisterhood and Men’s Club of TBS invite you to join us on Saturday, January 31 at 7:00 PM. You don’t have to be a soldier, know how to build a bridge or even know how to play bridge. No card playing experience necessary. $18.00 per person, includes dinner and dessert.
